MakerBot Method materials
The materials for the MakerBot Method are manufactured according to precise diameter and quality specifications
The MakerBot Method materials are developed and manufactured for maximum reliability in 3D printing and for the production of dimensionally accurate components. In addition, new materials with specific material properties will be added to the current range of materials over time.
New bobbins & new packaging for the highest quality
The materials for the MakerBot Method are produced according to exact diameter and quality specifications. The material is then packed and shipped in a vacuum-sealed, metallized polyester bag. In this way, the quality of the material is maintained on the way to you.
The new Smart Spool™ provides valuable information directly to the MakerBot Print software via an RFID chip. This means you always know which material type, which color and how much material (remaining quantity) you still have in the printer. A desiccant inside the spool absorbs additional humidity during the material loading process and in the material tray of the MakerBot Method.
UltiMaker ABS Carbon Fiber
Combine the performance of carbon fiber with the reliability of ABS with the new ABS-CF for the Method X, Method X CF and Method XL.

MakerBot ABS-R
ABS is one of the most popular materials for injection molded consumer goods due to its clean surface, durability and heat resistance. ABS-R is a true, production-grade ABS with no debilitating additives for 3D printing prototypes or end-use parts.
With MakerBot RapidRinse™ water-soluble support, you get unparalleled ABS parts with unprecedented ease.
Available colors:
MakerBot RapidRinse
MakerBot RapidRinse is a water-soluble support material for ABS-R. It allows you to print dimensionally stable ABS parts with the ease of PLA. Parts made from ABS-R and RapidRinse™ can be placed in warm tap water. The supports then dissolve in a short time. It dissolves faster than PVA or comparable support materials and can be used in any environment.

MakerBot Precision ABS
ABS is a commonly used plastic in the injection molding process. Many common products such as LEGOS are made from ABS. However, ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) is also used for keyboards, tool cases, electronic housings and automotive components, for example.
Available colors:
MakerBot Precision ASA
MakerBot ASA is a weatherproof alternative to ABS. MakerBot ASA can be used for functional prototypes or end-use parts in demanding outdoor environments; it is a thermoplastic with similar properties to ABS, but has better UV and chemical resistance to maintain gloss, color and mechanical properties when exposed to the elements.
Available colors:
Stratasys SR-30 for MakerBot Method X
The Stratasys SR-30 for the MakerBot Method X is a soluble support material for dual-extruder technology. This material enables quick and effortless removal of support structures. The dual-extruder technology in combination with Stratasys SR-30 offers you the possibility to produce complex parts from real ABS, ASA and other high-quality thermoplastics. Even overhangs, drill holes and components that move within themselves can be produced – there are almost no limits to the freedom of geometry!
Available colors:
MakerBot Precision Tough
MakerBot Precision Tough is a modified PLA developed for the additive manufacturing of durable, robust and precise components, prototypes or devices. It is a thermoplastic with similar mechanical properties to ABS, but with up to twice the impact strength and comparable tensile and flexural strength.
Available colors:
MakerBot Precision PLA
MakerBot Precision PLA has been extensively tested to reliably print dimensionally accurate parts. It is suitable for prototypes and demonstration samples that are not exposed to high mechanical stress. MakerBot Precision PLA is a biodegradable thermoplastic made from polylactic acid, which is obtained from renewable raw materials.
Available colors:
MakerBot Precision PVA
The MakerBot Precision PVA is a water-soluble support material for dual-extruder technology. This PVA enables quick and effortless removal of the support structures as it is water-soluble. The dual-extruder technology in combination with MakerBot Precision PVA offers you the possibility to produce complex parts. Even overhangs, drill holes and moving parts can be produced with it – there are almost no limits to the freedom of geometry!

MakerBot Specialty Nylon
MakerBot Precision Nylon has a high abrasion resistance and is suitable for industrial applications. It is temperature resistant and can be used for additive manufacturing of durable, precise and abrasion resistant parts. This makes it an excellent material for spare parts in a production facility or distribution center. Nylon is also widely used in the automotive and industrial goods industries for end-use parts and functional prototypes:
It is excellent for making tools/devices with repetitive motion or force, such as hinges, snap-fit joints, hinges, gears or air intakes.

MakerBot Nylon Carbon Fiber
MakerBot Nylon Carbon Fiber is very strong and heat resistant. This nylon filament reinforced with carbon fibers has high rigidity and heat resistance. It is suitable for industrial applications and can also replace metal parts. It has a good strength-to-weight ratio and can be used for the additive manufacturing of durable, precise and abrasion-resistant components. This makes it an excellent material for spare parts in a production facility or distribution center. Nylon CF is also widely used in the automotive and industrial goods industries for end-use parts and functional prototypes.
In addition to excellent mechanical properties, this filament offers an impressive surface finish that, depending on the geometry, can compete with SLS components.
MakerBot Nylon 12 Carbon Fiber
The carbon fiber reinforced Nylon 12 / PA 12 from MakerBot is significantly less susceptible to moisture than the MakerBot Nylon Carbon Fiber Filament. The MakerBot Nylon 12 Carbon Fiber Filament has approximately 35% carbon fiber content. It retains its specifications in many environments. Nylon 12’s moisture resistance means easier printing, consistent results and parts that can be used in a wider range of environments.
MakerBot Nylon 12 Carbon Fiber is suitable for applications with minimal flex – such as vehicle mounts or inspection gauges. PA 12 Carbon Fiber offers an impressive tensile modulus of 6000 MPa. MakerBot Nylon 12 Carbon Fiber + MakerBot METHOD X make PA 12 CF accessible to everyone and for almost any application – from simple tools to complex end-use parts.
MakerBot PC-ABS & PC-ABS-FR
With MakerBot PC-ABS & PC-ABS-FR you can produce durable and heat-resistant prototypes and end-use parts. PC-ABS is a strong, technically superior material that offers both high heat resistance and high impact strength. If ABS does not offer sufficiently high impact resistance, but high heat resistance is still required, PC-ABS offers an excellent alternative due to the addition of polycarbonate.
PC-ABS FR is the flame-retardant version of PC-ABS. MakerBot PC-ABS-FR meets the UL-94 V0 flammability rating, which is a general requirement for materials used in the production of passenger transportation vehicles such as rail cars, automobiles and airplanes.
MakerBot Specialty PETG
The MakerBot Specialty PETG material offers excellent mechanical properties: PETG combines high strength and durability with resistance to chemicals and moisture. PETG is one of the most widely used polymers today. It is the first specialty material with specific properties for the MakerBot Method. Other materials will follow.
