Is this CAD software?
No. Peel 3.CAD is a 3D scanner package for reverse engineering applications. In addition to the peel 3 3D scanner, it includes the data acquisition software peel.OS and the bridge-to-CAD software peel.CAD. This software forms a bridge to a CAD module; it is the missing link you need to extract usable information from your scan and transfer it to CAD.
Which file formats are generated?
Bodies and generated surfaces can be exported in .stp, .igs, .csv and .dxf format.
What about compatibility with various CAD programs?
peel.CAD is perfect for working with SolidWorks, Autodesk, Inventor and other common CAD platforms.
How does licensing work? Annual subscription? Payment? One-time purchase or?
peel.CAD is available as a perpetual license (it basically works for life) or as an annual license (payment must be renewed every year). Software updates are available through a subscription to the V.I.peel service plan.
Are the targets really necessary?
Targets are more of a supplement; the 3D scanner can use geometry and texture for positioning. Targets are highly recommended for flatter or smoother surfaces and when accuracy is important.
