3D printing process with PU/polyurethane synthetic resins

The 3D printing of polyurethane resins requires a longer work process and additional equipment, as well as a higher consumption of resin tanks. Setting up the printer and post-processing require more attention and more time. Only then will you achieve consistently high-quality results.

PU Datenaufbereitung

Prepare data

You generate your print file in the PreForm software. This supports you with the orientation of the components and the generation of the support structures, as well as the arrangement in the installation space. You then simply send the file to the printer via LAN / WLAN / USB cable.

3D-Drucker Vorbereitung

Prepare the 3D printer

Pour the polyurethane resin from the aluminum container into the cartridge. Make sure that the 3D printer is placed in a drying cabinet at approx. 2% RH. Insert the cartridge into the printer. Place the build platform and the resin tank in the printer.

PU 3D-Drucken

PU 3d printing

Now follow the instructions on the machine’s touchscreen as usual to start 3D printing with polyurethane.

PU Nachbearbeiten

Post-processing

After printing, briefly place the build platform in a PGDA bath. Then dry the parts completely in the air or using compressed air. Then detach the parts from the build platform and remove the support structures. Then place the dry parts in a humidity chamber at 46°C & a relative humidity of 70% (RH) to post-cure for 3-14 days (depending on the wall thickness of the components).
