More informationIntroduction of 3D printing in schools with 3D-EDU GmbH
Many schools and teachers in Switzerland and throughout Europe are already using 3D printing to provide state-of-the-art resources in the classroom and prepare pupils and students for the challenges of the 21st century working world. Getting started with this complex topic is often a challenge. That’s why 3d-edu.ch has developed educational articles and an edu-portal that will make it easier to integrate 3D printing into your teaching content. We provide you with teaching materials, exercise and work materials, teaching aids and didactic-methodical tips, etc. with the aim of enabling the teaching of basic knowledge in the field of 3D design from a single source.
“3D printing is an important tool for teaching and imparts knowledge that drives students to peak performance. These skills are more in demand than ever in the 21st century job market – whether it’s a basic understanding of STEM subjects, the ability to work in a team, problem-solving skills or the application of acquired knowledge,” said Jonathan Jaglom, former CEO of MakerBot.
According to a recent survey conducted by MakerBot in the US, 83% of teachers who already use MakerBot 3D printers use them to print and review student-created designs rather than using existing files. Therefore, teachers and professors need to be able to teach 3D design and teach students the basics of the most common software products that can be used to turn ideas into 3D printable designs. Model lesson outlines and ideas for feasible projects were the most requested content for implementing 3D printing in the classroom. We are now trying to fill these gaps.
3d-edu.ch – Education is a long-term initiative by 3d-edu.ch and MakerBot to promote the implementation of 3D printing in schools and universities in collaboration with teachers. We want to provide teachers and students with practical support in this area and give them ideas, first steps and entire projects to work on the topic with pupils or students. Under the title “MakerBot in the Classroom” you will find an introduction to the world of 3D printing as well as previews of lesson plans for initial teaching units in the field of 3D design. We also provide additional resources and ideas for integrating 3D printing into the classroom, such as Education Stories, Thingiverse Education for teachers and students and much more.
With MakerBot, we also offer educational institutions product solutions such as MakerBot Sketch, the easy-to-implement, customizable and reliable 3D printing solution. We also offer customized solutions for the intelligent use of different 3D printing technologies.
3D printers from us can already be found in many schools and educational institutions – from primary to tertiary level. Some have a few small, simple 3D printers for beginners. Others have the full range of technologies available from us. On the one hand, they are used to train students. On the other hand, pupils or students use the devices for their own projects or research. At the universities, they are sometimes also used for collaborations with local industrial companies.
