The long-awaited Fuse 1 SLS 3D printer ushers in a new era of in-house prototyping and manufacturing. The Fuse 1 enables production-ready PA12 (nylon) 3D printing in your company. With the Fuse 1 and the Sift 1 – the post-processing and powder preparation station, Formlabs offers an affordable, compact SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) platform.

The Formlabs Fuse 1 is an industrial-grade SLS 3D printer. Nevertheless, it remains affordable due to its low acquisition costs, inexpensive material and efficient powder recycling.

Quick and easy print setup

The Formlabs Fuse 1 is set up for printing using the free Formlabs PreForm software. There you can import your STL or OBJ files, align and arrange the models. Printing times are then calculated and the data for 3D printing is transferred to the machine.

Numerous models can also be automatically arranged in the installation space with just a few mouse clicks.

SLS 3D printing made easy

The intuitive touchscreen user interface guides you step by step through machine setup and print preparation. A live stream of the print bed is even displayed during printing. This allows you to follow how your components take shape layer by layer. This camera view is also displayed on the computer in PreForm for monitoring from your desk.

You can also use the cloud-based dashboard to track the print status from any location and obtain further information on consumables or about your teams.

Reliable, consistent SLS 3D printing

In the SLS 3D printing process (Selective Laser Sintering), polyamide powder (nylon) is melted together layer by layer. The non-fused powder within the build space supports the parts during the printing process. This allows complex, movable or connected components to be manufactured without support structures.

The Fuse 1 has its own SLS technology (Surface Armor Technology) in which a semi-sintered shell is printed around the surface of the part. This technology is patent pending. For this reason, Formlabs can offer competitive mechanical properties and high surface quality in an affordable SLS 3D printing system with the Fuse 1. This is because there are no high costs or the expense of competing systems.

Safe, clean powder recovery

The Formlabs Fuse Sift powder recovery station combines several sub-steps of SLS 3D printing post-processing and preparation. The Fuse Sift is used for component removal, powder recovery, storage and powder preparation.

With the Formlabs Fuse 1 you can produce fully functional components. Powder refresh rate (refresh ratio) is 30% for PA12 – with unlimited cycles. This means that you can print with up to 70% recycled powder.

The Fuse Sift automatically fills the build chamber with used and new powder. This can then be mixed at the Fuse Sift. This minimizes waste and the powder supply can be controlled.

Designed for high throughput

With an optional second build chamber, you can achieve almost interruption-free production. The build chambers are removable and compatible with the Fuse 1 and the Fuse Sift.

The build chamber only needs to cool down in the printer for approx. 1-2 hours after the end of the previous print. You can then remove it and start the next print. This significantly reduces machine downtimes.

Nylon 12 / PA 12 powder
A versatile material

Nylon 12 is a high-performance material for functional prototyping as well as for the final production of complex assemblies. Nylon 12 components are durable and can withstand environmental influences. This material also offers a good balance between strength and detail. The Formlabs Nylon 12 powder was developed specifically for use with the Formlabs Fuse 1.

Formlabs Nylon 12 is now available. Nylon 11 will follow shortly. A flexible TPU and other materials are under development.
