New resin for the Formlabs Form 2 – new development platform for the Form 1+

Formlabs Grey Resin V3

A few days ago, Formlabs announced the latest developments for the Formlabs Form 2 and the Formlabs 1+.

A new gray resin for the Formlabs Form 2

Formlabs launches a matte, opaque gray resin that offers the second best surface finish of all Formlabs materials to date.

The material is suitable for many components that need to be precise and of high aesthetic quality. The gray Resin v3 offers a clear appearance, which is perfect for printing sculptures or dental models, for example. In addition to the beautiful surface, the new gray resin, just behind the Dental SG, is the material with which the most precise objects can be printed.

Compared to the previous formula, the updated gray resin is thinner, more matte and more opaque. The parts printed with it are much more elegant and attractive even without sanding, polishing or priming (although this is still necessary if you want to paint them). The layer lines are less visible, even on prints with a layer height of 100 microns. And thinner or smaller details are less transparent.

We are always happy to announce completely new materials, like the Engineering Resins last year. But we are also pleased to see that Formlabs continues to work on existing materials to achieve even better results.

The new “Grey Resin” is applied in the same way as the other standard resins. It is only important to ensure that it is shaken well before use.

As soon as the new resin is available, we will automatically switch to it. As always, all Formlabs resins are also available in our online store.

Form X – the experimental product platform from Formlabs

Form X showcases innovative tools, materials and solutions for advanced users who want to push the boundaries of what is currently possible.

Form X currently includes a ceramic resin and OpenFL, an API to hack the Form 1+. Further projects are in development.

Formlabs Ceramic Resin

Ceramic resin

Ceramic Resin is the first Form X material from Formlabs. When hardened, this material produces parts that look and feel like ceramic. If the parts are fired, real ceramics are created, which can also be glazed. This resin is still under development and will be available at the beginning of 2017.

More information will follow as soon as the material is available.

Open FL

OpenFL is a software project that gives users the ability to directly access the API of the Form 1+. This allows the Form 1+ to use third-party materials, as well as advanced applications such as embedding objects in prints for the production of lithophanes or PCBs.
