Form 2 Resin tank – service life

Formlabs resin tanks are consumables that need to be replaced. A standard resin tank needs to be replaced after approximately 1000-3000 printed layers over an area of the elastic layer or when the wear of the elastic layer affects the print quality. With an average application time, the Formlabs Form 2 resin tank offers high quality results at up to 1-1.5 liters.

The individual service life of a tank is influenced by various factors such as the amount of pressure, the model geometry, the layer thickness, the resin type, the model orientation and the layout.

Extending the service life of the Form 2 tank

• Distribute the objects on the build platform so that the same areas of the elastic layer of the Form 2 Resin Tank are not repeatedly exposed to laser light.
• Use the alignment tool in PreForm to print the parts at an optimal angle and achieve the smallest possible surface area per layer. This reduces the area of the elastic layer that is exposed to the laser and release forces.
• Print parts with the largest acceptable layer height. High resolutions ensure that the elastic layer is exposed to two (at 50 microns) or four times (at 25 microns) more laser activity than at 100 microns. Concentrated laser activity increases the level of haze.

Storing standard resin tanks

Store the Formlabs Form 2 Resin Tank in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Use the tank lids to protect the resin in the tank and to be able to stack several tanks on top of each other. Some Formlabs materials, such as Castable, High Temp and Dental SG, cause standard resin tanks to wear out more quickly. Avoid storing these resins in the tank for longer than one month to prevent leaks and subsequent damage.
