Formlabs offers two new resins for the dental sector: The Formlabs Permanent Crown Resin for permanent restorations straight from the 3D printer and the Formlabs Soft Tissue Resin Starter Pack for gingival masks. Accordingly, Formlabs Dental offers a comprehensive range of materials for restorative dentistry.
3D printing for restorative dentistry
The digital revolution has already reached restorative dental technology. Digital methods such as intraoral scanning and digital planning and design (in CAD and CAM) are already being used by many dentists and dental technicians in Switzerland. In CAM (computer-aided manufacturing), the milling of zirconium oxide or lithium disilicate is currently still the predominant manufacturing process.
Until now, 3D printing of permanent dentures was not an option. There were simply hardly any dental materials with the required mechanical properties for 3D printing. There was also a lack of accuracy and fit to compete with milled or conventional materials. In the last five years, 3D printing has become very widespread in dentistry and significant progress has been made. Therefore, 3D printing now also offers the possibility of testing and validating advanced indications.
The digital workflow for Permanent Crown Resin was developed in collaboration with BEGO. BEGO is one of the leading companies in prosthetics and dental implant technology and has more than 20 years of experience in the development of 3D printing materials for dental applications. BEGO is also a specialist in all dental manufacturing techniques.
The Formlabs Form 3B and the associated ecosystem(Form Wash and Form Cure, for post-processing of 3D printed parts) make it possible to achieve the dimensional precision required for such highly accurate products. The intuitive workflows are rigorously validated and the system is still available at an affordable price.

The Formlabs Permanent Crown Resin is a ceramic-filled tooth-colored resin. It is indicated for the direct 3D printing of permanent single crowns, inlays, onlays and veneers.
This resin is used to fabricate highly stable long-term restorations with a precise fit. Restorations made of Permanent Crown Resin hardly age or discolor. They also accumulate almost no plaque. This is ensured, among other things, by the low water absorption and smooth surface.

Permanent dentures from the 3D printer are currently still a novelty on the market. Therefore, it is up to each printer manufacturer to decide how extensively safety is tested. Formlabs has rigorously tested each stage of the workflow to ensure patient safety at all times. The specific workflow for using Permanent Crown Resin on the Formlabs Form 3B ecosystem has been independently audited by the Notified Bodies. As such, the entire printer ecosystem has been validated for third party and health authority inspections (e.g. the US FDA). This additional validation from the first to the last step is one of the great advantages of the Formlabs workflow.

The Formlabs Soft Tissue Resin Starter Pack includes one liter of Formlabs Flexible 80A Resin and the necessary color pigments to mix the desired shade. This allows dental labs to create gingival masks and other soft tissue models on a Formlabs 3D printer.
Minimize chairside adjustments by precisely planning dental appliances and incorporating soft tissue management into the planning process.
Convince yourself of the accuracy of your implant prostheses by also integrating soft tissue components in the production of your models.
Mixing Soft Tissue Resin
The Soft Tissue Resin Starter Pack contains a Formlabs Flexible 80A Resin as a resin base, as well as magenta, yellow and white pigments for coloring. This allows you to determine the color of your model yourself. Formlabs has validated three recipes in advance for dark, medium and light pink, which guarantee uniform prints. All you have to do is measure out the amount of pigment, fill it into the cartridge with Flexible 80A Resin and mix well (shake the cartridge). You can then start printing your model straight away.
