MakerBot CES 2015 | Preview for 2015

At the annual International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, MakerBot presented its further developments for 2015. In 2014, MakerBot launched three new MakerBot Replicator 3D printers. They also launched various initiatives such as MakerBot Desktop, MakerBot Mobile and MakerBot PrintShop. They also launched the MakerBot Digital Store, expanded with licensed partners and much more.

No new printers have now been introduced for 2015. Instead, the focus is on the further development of the “MakerBot 3D Ecosystem” to provide customers with even better support. 3D printing is not easy – no “plug and play”. 3D printing requires work, software and hardware to make it work. Therefore, the focus will be on the entire 3D printing process to make it even easier and accessible for everyone in the future.

The growing MakerBot 3D Ecosystem
The “MakerBot 3D Ecosystem today already includes hardware such as the MakerBot 3D printers and scanners and software solutions such as MakerBot Desktop, MakerBot Mobile or MakerBot PrintShop. That’s already quite a lot, but MakerBot showed us at CES 2015 that they have even more to offer, in particular:

-New MakerBot PLA Composite Filament
-New and updated MakerBot applications

MakerBot PLA Composite Filaments
The new line of MakerBot PLA Composite Filaments can be divided into three categories: Metal, Stone, and Wood. These beautiful, realistic and highly consistent materials will be released towards the end of 2015. But the photos of the prints presented at CES already give an idea of the quality and potential applications of these great materials.

These new materials will also address the potential of the interchangeable MakerBot Replicator Smart Extruder. In just a few minutes, you will be able to replace the previous extruder with the extruder optimized for the new innovative filaments. So you are ready to create prototypes that look and feel like real objects. This allows you to optimize your “real-time prototyping” – without having to buy a new 3D printer!

New and Upgraded Apps

NewApps

In the first quarter of 2015, it will be easier than ever to start and monitor 3D printing remotely. Updates to MakerBot Mobile for iPhone and Android will make it possible to prepare 3D models for printing, generate previews and start and monitor 3D printing – all from your smartphone.
