The UltiMaker Printcore DD 0.4 mm has been specially developed for use with the UltiMaker Ultrafuse Support Layer filament, which is part of the UltiMaker Full Metal Expansion Kit. This filament contains embedded fiber materials or metal particles that improve the mechanical properties of the printed object. These admixtures, often in the form of glass or carbon fibers, are extremely abrasive and cause conventional brass nozzles to wear out quickly. However, a smooth and intact inner wall of the nozzle is crucial for a clean printing process, which is why abrasive materials should always be used with more resistant hotends.

The UltiMaker Printcore DD only supports the BASF Ultrafuse Support Layer and is designed for use with the UltiMaker S7, UltiMaker S5 with Air Manager, UltiMaker S5 Standalone and the UltiMaker S3. It has a minimum life of 65 meters (500g) of BASF Ultrafuse Support Layer. The Printcore DD supports a maximum extrusion temperature of 265 °C and complies with product safety regulations (UL60950-1/Machinery Directive) in the EU.
