You have great ideas, as evidenced by your sketchbook. Unfortunately, you don’t yet have the 3D design skills to turn these ideas into reality. Until now… Take advantage of ShapeMaker, an exciting new tool in MakerBot PrintShop 1.5. ShapeMaker transforms your drawings, sketches, photos or scans from 2D to 3D. It converts your projects into printable 3D files.
Snapping, customizing, 3D printing
ShapeMaker is easy to use. It has been integrated into PrintShop 1.5 for iPad and works intuitively, based on simple gestures to adjust the details for 3D printing.
- Take a photo of your drawing or upload an image from your iPad library.
- Adjust the size and cut-out to achieve the desired contour.
- Save, print and share your file!
Everything is in the lines
Here are some tips to get the best out of ShapeMaker. It’s easy and fun to use, but “good-to-use” images make it even easier…
- Thick, black lines on a white background work best. We recommend using black markers. Photos from your iPad library should have the same contrast.
- When taking the photo of the drawing, you should reduce shadows as much as possible and obtain usable images.
- You can also use photo software to create the black and white contrast. Then save it as a photo file in the iPad library. You can then simply import it into PrintShop.
