Formlabs PreForm – Software Update 2.11.0 brings improved printability check

The latest update of PreForm, the software for preparing your 3D printed models with the Form 2, is combined with a firmware update (software that is installed on the printer).
In the current version, the way in which Preform checks printability has been improved. The calculation of how well your model is supported by the support structures and how this is displayed has been optimized. The update also includes some bug fixes and a new, simple display that indicates whether your model is printable or not.

Bug fixes
If you have been using PreForm for some time, you will know that after you have added the “Support” function to your model, areas that are not sufficiently supported will light up red. These red areas indicate whether your model either needs to be supported more by manually adding support or whether it should be placed differently.
The calculation of this printability test has now been significantly improved. It may be that questionable results were previously displayed for some models. For an optimized result, run the printability check again with the current version PreForm 2.11.0.
Printability at a glance
A small printability indicator has been added to the bottom right corner of PreForm. This should quickly show you whether your model is printable or not.
The example below shows that the lower loops are well supported. The upper loops may be difficult to print. In this case, move the mouse over the printability display. You will now see some details indicating where the problem lies. A link to the Formlabs documentation will also inform you about support structures.
If you want to avoid internal support structures, we recommend placing the model in such a way that larger parts do not float directly above the layers below.
At this printable position, the printability indicator changes to a tick. This means that your model is well supported and ready for printing!

- FORM files saved under 2.11.0 cannot be opened with earlier versions of PreForm
- PreForm 2.11.0 can open FORM files that were created with older versions
- Improved resin wiping process to reduce noise and ensure a uniform temperature of the resin
