The new UltiMaker Factor 4 3D printer is designed for the development and production of process-critical tools and components. With support for engineered materials, dual extrusion with direct drive, integrated print quality monitoring, temperature-controlled build chamber and other innovative features, it offers high levels of predictability and minimal variation. Building on more than a decade of commitment to openness and accessibility, the machine will support one of the broadest material portfolios on the market for a variety of applications, including end-use parts, functional prototyping, manufacturing tooling and low-volume production of auxiliary components and spare parts.
As an authorized UltiMaker reseller, we have already had the opportunity to inspect the Factor 4 during a technical training session in the Netherlands.
We have already been able to inspect the new UltiMaker Factor 4 at the UltiMaker site in the Netherlands.
The Factor 4 offers a temperature-controlled build volume of 330 x 240 x 300 mm and uniform print bed heating that ensures consistent performance across the entire build plate. Designed for the manufacturing and industrial sectors, it features a new high temperature print core capable of printing up to 340°C. This enables a wider range of high-performance, temperature-resistant and durable materials, such as the new UltiMaker PPS CF, a high-temperature composite material. The machine utilizes the heated bed and actively controlled airflow in the build chamber to control the build volume temperature up to 70 °C, ensuring optimal material-specific processing conditions and consistent part quality.
The Factor 4 is designed to deliver consistent results across multiple machines – ideal for producing validated parts for distributed manufacturing. Thanks to its versatility, reliability and ease of use, the printer is ideal for industries looking to optimize production workflows and accelerate development. With the latest print profiles for the Factor 4, available from UltiMaker Cura 5.7.1, engineering materials such as PET-CF and Nylon can be printed with similar productivity to Tough PLA and PETG, doubling the print speed compared to the UltiMaker S-Series.
Key features of the Factor 4
Industrial performance
Made of robust steel, aluminum and glass, the Factor 4 is designed for industrial use. The printer features a triple-insulated build volume, closed-loop and direct-drive dual extrusion, automatic inductive bed leveling and a PEI-coated flexible build plate that ensures consistent production output even with complex and challenging designs. These features, combined with the new H-bridge gantry and a rigid all-metal frame, enable high-speed printing and accuracy.
Automated material handling and storage
The integrated, low-humidity material handling system allows you to reliably manage your print jobs. The material station is climate-controlled, keeping humidity below 15%, and holds up to six spools of filament. It has an automatic material change function that seamlessly switches between spools, avoiding downtime and ensuring uninterrupted printing when longer print times or high material throughput are required.
Greater variety of materials
The printer extends the range of industrial-grade, high-performance materials and enables the production of parts with proven structural integrity, from flexible materials to high-temperature composites such as UltiMaker PPS CF. UltiMaker PPS CF is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic material reinforced with carbon fibers. The material has a temperature resistance of more than 230°C and is flame-retardant. It offers a high-performance alternative to steel or aluminum for less demanding parts and enables users to open up new industrial applications.
Seamless workflow integration
UltiMaker Cura 5.7.1 includes new print profiles for the Factor 4 that have been customized and tuned for optimal print quality and performance. By automatically recognizing UltiMaker materials and print cores in Cura, the Factor 4 offers a smooth 3D printing experience. The printer is also compatible with all common CAD programs.
Powerful onboard print process reporting
The device features a 7-inch touchscreen and a series of sensors in the print head, build volume and automatic material loading system that monitor real-time data on printer and material performance and provide detailed reports after each print job, ensuring easy part validation and quality control.
Modular system for simplified maintenance
The printer’s modular design allows for easy repair and maintenance, minimizing downtime and maximizing productivity.
Materials that will be available at the launch of Factor 4 include the new PPS CF, other UltiMaker materials such as PLA, Tough PLA, Nylon, PETG, PET CF and PVA, as well as validated materials from BASF Forward AM, Kimya, Polymaker, LEHVOSS, Jabil and others. Factor 4 will be compatible with materials from the UltiMaker Marketplace, with 250 pre-defined print profiles. The Factor 4 supports 2.85 mm filament. The printer is equipped with an integrated HEPA filter and offers a safe working environment at all times thanks to the stop button.
