By heating to very high temperatures, the secondary components of raw materials such as polyacrylonitrile or wood by-products are &#8220;burned away&#8221;. This produces fibers that consist of almost completely crystalline carbon structures: Woven together, they form the carbon fibers. These carbon fibers can be woven into fabrics. Moldable sheets can be produced by adding resin. Or the fibers can be processed into powder, which is then sintered or bonded using a 3D printer.     <\/p>\n<p>The mechanical properties of composite materials such as carbon fiber-reinforced plastics sometimes exceed those of conventionally manufactured parts made of steel, wood or aluminum. Although the carbon fibers increase the strength of the base material, they hardly increase its weight. As a result, these composite materials are still very light despite the increased strength of the base material. This is why they are often used in automotive ducts, manifolds, engine air flows, aerospace housings, high-performance sports equipment and boat building. This has allowed SMEs to produce end-use carbon fiber parts at a much lower cost than conventional methods. However, there are also limitations to the use of 3D printed molds: large production runs, parts with internal channels or small negative and positive features or high production volumes are difficult and time consuming to produce.  <\/p>\n<h2>Direct 3D printing of carbon fiber-reinforced nylon parts 11<\/h2>\n<p>The production of 3D-printed carbon fiber-reinforced components has become possible thanks to more efficient sintering processes and material science developments in recent years. This involves combining carbon fiber particles with typical SLS materials such as nylon. <\/p>\n<p>Direct 3D printing of carbon fiber-reinforced parts will not completely replace conventional methods of manufacturing carbon fiber parts, but it will complement them. 3D-printed parts made of nylon 11 CF primarily have a slightly lower tensile strength (UTS). However, they have significantly higher strength and stiffness compared to their unreinforced polymer counterparts. The Fuse 1+ 30W printer offers advantages in 3D printing carbon fiber reinforced parts in the areas of geometric freedom.   &nbsp;  It also provides a fast, low-labor alternative to traditional production methods, with a small footprint and a simple workflow.<\/p>\n<p>Additive manufacturing using the SLS process largely eliminates the geometric restrictions of conventional shaping processes. This allows components to be produced in a stable, inert environment without the risk of oxidation. The unsintered powder around the parts retains its quality, resulting in a better refresh rate and therefore more economical production.  <\/p>\n<p>Nylon 11 CF powder has a refresh rate of 30% thanks to the nitrogen supply. This means that each new build chamber only requires 30% new powder, i.e. 70% of the cleaned powder from previous prints can be reused. This enables completely waste-free printing. On the one hand, this leads to a reduction in material costs. On the other hand, it helps to make the workplace and the environment cleaner and more sustainable.    <\/p>\n<p>Nylon 11 CF Powder can be easily integrated into your workflow. The material change from Nylon 11 to Nylon 11 CF Powder requires only two to three hours of cleaning time. This is a much shorter cleaning time compared to changing materials on other traditional SLS machines. This gives you a more efficient working day.
