Formlabs reinvents stereolithography (SLA) with LFS technology

The LFS (Low Force Stereolithography) technology was installed in the Formlabs Form 3. This is characterized by a flexible resin tank and an improved exposure unit (Light Processing Unit). This allows resin to flow more quickly during the printing process. In addition, the forces involved in the peeling process during the printing process are reduced. The optimized light processing unit (LPU) consists of a compact system of lenses, mirrors and filters and ensures a razor-sharp laser beam that hits the build platform vertically. Ultimately, these further developments result in reliable and repeatable 3D printing. What’s more, printing is faster and the print results are more precise.

Continuous high-resolution printing

The Formlabs Form 3 has a print volume of 145 x 145 x 185 mm. Here it hardly differs from its predecessor. In terms of XY resolution, speed and reliability, however, the Formlabs Form 3 offers a significant improvement. The Form 3 has an XY resolution of up to 25 µm. And above all, a comprehensive system of optical sensors ensures continuous monitoring and maintenance of ideal printing conditions. The dimensional accuracy is monitored and the printer is apparently designed to detect dust itself.

Maximum user-friendliness

The Formlabs resin is also compatible with the Formlabs Form 3. In this way, existing customers can easily expand their system with the new technology. New customers benefit from proven material management and an impressive variety of materials.
In addition, Formlabs has now designed the Form 3 to be modular, allowing individual modules to be exchanged by the user. In this respect, Formlabs has also significantly improved user-friendliness with regard to repairs.

Automatic post-processing

The Formlabs Form 3 makes post-processing even easier. Finer and easier to remove support structures allow for shorter and more efficient post-processing. Even the Form Wash and Form Cure post-processing systems are compatible with the Formlabs Form 3 and are included in this Complete Package. This means that post-processing can also be automated.
